Digital Signature Certificates can be obtained paperless through the 'Aadhaar Offline EKYC' procedure for Aadhaar card holders. As part of an Aadhaar-based KYC verification process, the application is carried forward after a digital verification of the applicant has been completed. Any person or entity who has been granted a license to issue a digital signature certificate is recognised as a digital certifying authority (CA) under the information technology (IT) Act 2000. A prospective CA is audited by the controller of certifying authorities, the ministry of IT, to ensure compliance requirements are met, then granted a license.
Digital Signature Certificates are secure digital keys issued by certifying authorities to authenticate and confirm the identity of the individual holding them. Using public-key encryption, digital signatures are created.
